Paradox of Tolerance, self-criticsm and being humble and kind

Remaining open to those that may not understand our values, while keeping ourselves in check.


In 1945, the philosopher Karl Popper described the 'seemingly paradoxical idea that, "In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance."' (– Wikipedia).
With regards to criticism, people online often use this principle in order to defend themselves, e. g.: "We must not allow this intolerance, this person is just a [troll|nazi|whatever-we-don't-like]." That's fine. But let's be self-critical, kind and humble whenever we can emotionally afford it.
